Baker Hughes supports women and diversity PDF Print E-mail

“I am so happy to work for a company like Baker Hughes which promotes diversification and gives me all the opportunities to enhance my career and experience different countries and cultures” says Angela Durkin, Director for Technical support for Continental Europe.

Diversity is simply defined as all the ways in which individuals are unique, different and similar. It is about valuing behaviour, culture and differences.

“We are committed to our employees, and recognize the business value of embracing diversity” says Nichola Jenkins, Global Diversity and Leadership Manager. Diversity values and leverages the talent, experience, knowledge and contribution of our entire workforce and mirrors our global, multicultural customers while we service their needs and expectations.

In 2009, Baker Hughes founded the Women's Resource group to be part of an international group representing the issues and concerns of women in Baker Hughes and to create actions in support of attraction, development and retention of women. That team has senior leadership sponsorship and champions who help direct them and align all they do with the bigger business strategy.

Angela is a Member and Chairperson for the EARC Women's Resource group steering team. Our Mission statement for Diversity is that ‘We strive to build an inclusive culture that values the diversity of our global workforce and sustains an environment in which employees can develop and reach their ultimate potential. We believe that a diverse and talented workforce, working as a team across geographies and product lines will benefit our customers and create a decisive competitive advantage for Baker Hughes.' Angela is very proud to be a member of the group and be able to support other women in the company.

The 4 women’s regional steering teams are all creating actions that support this mission statement and will be communicating these through internal websites, newsletters and events commencing 4th quarter 2009.

There will be Mentoring programs, networking events, internal newsletters; attendance at diversity conferences, photography competitions and many more activities, so all support is very willingly accepted.

“With all the fantastic support we have had from our senior leadership we know our Diversity plan will support a great future for the company.” Explains Jenkins.
